Our Story
Created in 2017, The Southern Outdoorsmen was born to be a resource for all hunters, but especially those of us who reside in the Deep South. Created initially as a blog, the business quickly evolved into a podcast within a few months.
In February of 2018, Andrew Maxwell teamed up with Jacob Myers (some of you know him as 'The ginger bowhunter') to launch the Southern Outdoorsmen Podcast. Since its inception, the podcast has seen hundreds of guests from all over the country, many of whom are the absolute best of the best hunters in their areas. From the start, we have focused on real hunters who hammer the same public land, hunting clubs, and leases we do, not hunting personalities who have access to the best ground in the country.
The result has been a tidal wave of listener success stories over the years - our listeners have been able to apply what they hear on the show, where they hunt.
Andrew Maxwell
Andrew grew up hunting the piney woods of central Alabama, just south of Birmingham. While attending college, he founded The Southern Outdoorsmen as a blog to share articles and lessons from his time afield. In 2018, he joined forces with Jacob Myers to launch The Southern Outdoorsmen Podcast.
One lesson has remained at the heart of Andrew’s work: a mentor once told him that the greatest compliment a hunter can receive is to be called a woodsman. That conviction continues to guide The Southern Outdoorsmen, with every podcast, article, film, and resource aimed at helping hunters develop true woodsmanship.
Jacob Myers
Jacob grew up hunting the woods of central Alabama with his uncles, and later spent several years at boarding school in Arkansas, where he continued chasing whitetails in a very different landscape. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong fascination with understanding deer and the woods they inhabit. Since then, Jacob has hunted whitetails across the country, constantly studying new terrain, tactics, and regional hunting styles.
Above all, Jacob has a passion for helping other hunters succeed. Whether through the podcast, or conversations with fellow hunters, he is always looking for practical ways to simplify difficult concepts and help others become more confident in the woods. That spirit of generosity has been a cornerstone of The Southern Outdoorsmen since he joined Andrew Maxwell to launch the podcast in 2018.
